The same spot on Big Trinity Lake where the two of us camped five years ago
An evening walk around the lake, practicing photography for a class she has this semester
We were dive-bombed a couple times by hummingbirds as we made our way around
With a little daylight left, we decided to ride up to the lookout
Brenna found the road up a bit scary, like last time, but we made it without trouble
She wanted to add our names to the visitor notebook she found in a tin
Looking down on Rainbow Basin, where we planned to hike the next day
We marveled at the sunset on our way down from the lookout
Dark clouds from the north were impressive but suggested a hasty retreat to camp
Low rain clouds set aglow by the brilliantly pink sunset. We were amazed.
Brenna slept while I started the fire and dried stuff left wet by night rains
After breakfast and coffee, we set out to hike Rainbow Basin (our track in Google Earth)
We were delighted by wildflowers everywhere
Nearly to the ridge and into the basin
Frequent signs warned of gluttonous bears
We passed a few lakes before stopping to rest at Heart Lake
We were ready for rest after the long walk, a bit over eight miles
Brenna was quick to dress for departure by day three
“How we really feel” (jokingly) after a long night of hard rain
