Frozen sand is poor footing.


He threw his hat onto a steep dune and soon discovered he was unable to climb all the way up the frozen sand to retrieve it.






I was perplexed when I saw this creature in a tree. From a ways off it looked like a monkey but in Idaho, in the desert, in the winter? It was hardly less suprising to finally recognize it as a porcupine. I didn't know they lived in the desert or climbed trees!








Stepping onto the frozen, sloping sand would induce an almost unstoppable slide. It was important to walk the ridgeline. They were a little freaked out about that.
