I find the sun still up and the weather nice after I finish weekend chores so head out for the usual jaunt up Rocky Canyon Road to the ridge and back down Trail 4. Or that’s the plan.

The day with the least ride time was to allow exploration but the weather becomes its own adventure as we make our way from Banff through mountain passes to Radium.

About a month ago, I joined an area hiking group to camp a couple nights at Bruneau Dunes State Park. It was a nice time so I was happy to sign up for a second such trip to another of my favorite nearby spots, Leslie Gulch.

The military practice area south of the Boise airport is more active today than other times I’ve used its maze of dirt and gravel roads to avoid interstate. Groups of tanks are being readied here and there by helmeted soldiers, like chicks around their mother hens.

I wave as one rolls past on the road, the metal chatter of its tracks audible over earplugs and music in my helmet.

We were going to ride Jeep trails up toward the actual Lucky Peak but they were gated so Brenna and I made do with a loop around Lukcy Peak the reservoir.
