Brother Ride

Part 4 of 4:Crater Peak Reunion

My brothers and I are pleased to find last year’s primitive campsite largely intact and set about making improvements for the expected years to come while storm clouds play across the wide horizon until rain drives us into our tents.

We were excited to see last year’s stone table intact but someone had kicked the ring of stones into our fire pit so Jesse began work on the new and improved fire pit. He made a plan to add a ring of stones each time we camp here which led to all manner of imaginative upgrades to the site. Maybe a wet bar, pool table …

The night brought more stormy weather — wind and another burst of rain. We retreated to our tents, ready to sleep, and awoke glad for the dry morning.

We took our time packing and making a final tour of the ridge where we posed for 2009 (still working on how to get our brother Jeremy on these rides).

From that mountain in the St. Joe Ranger District, we rode back to Joel’s, then Jesse’s for celebratory pizza, ice cream, comedy and a soft couch. The next day, refreshed, I left early for the 300 miles south to Boise.
